Outback Experience and Opals 

(Sydney to Adelaide) 4days / 3nights

MON/THU            depart Sydney with the Indian pacific train for Broken Hill            D

Leave Sydney on Monday or Thursday afternoon with the world famous Indian Pacific Train and travel first through the magnificent Blue Mountains, then through country New South Wales and the outback to Broken Hill. Your accommodation tonight will be a First Class Cabin aboard the train.

TUE/FRI            Broken hill – Mutawintji – White Cliffs                                          B/L/D

You will be collected at the Broken Hill train station upon arrival of the Indian Pacific. Leaving Broken Hill we travel to the Mutawintji National Park to explore its history and grandeur with Aboriginal art and haunting memories to take us back in time. The wildlife in and around Mutawintji is also spectacular: Big Red Kangaroos, Emus, Eagles and much more. After a picnic lunch we continue our journey and travel to the remote White Cliffs Opal Field - the oldest commercial opal field in Australia! Tonight dinner will be served by the friendly staff of the famous underground Dug Out Motel, which is also our accommodation for the night – a very unique experience!

WED/SAT            White Cliffs – Broken Hill                                                       B/L/D

We will spend the morning inspecting this extraordinary outback settlement. Learn how and why the community lives underground. Visit some underground opal galleries and perhaps purchase one of the magnificent local opal products. Before lunch we'll see the 'Old Field' where in search for “colour” over 50,000 holes have been dug since the 1890's. Return to Broken Hill for dinner and a well deserved good nights rest.

THU/SUN             Silverton                                                                                B/L

Today we visit the 'Hollywood of the Outback', Silverton. Numerous TV-commercials and movies such as 'A Town Like Alice', 'Mad Max II' and many more have made Silverton a special place. Visit the galleries of the local outback artists and see the sweeping ‘Mundi Mundi’ Plains from where it is often possible to see the curvature of the earth. Back to Broken Hill for transfer to the airport for departure with afternoon Hazelton Flight to Adelaide. (Departure details will be advised at time of booking)
