Alice Springs and Uluru

The Red Center

Ayers Rock or Uluru is a universal symbol of the red heart of the country.  210 miles southwest of Alice Springs is the largest monolith in the world.  It is two miles long, 1 1/2 miles wide and 1,143 feet high.  The rock - remains sacred to the Aboriginal people.  Aboriginal paintings and remains of ancient rites and ceremonies are in evidence in the rock’s folds and caverns.   Also in the same national park are the Olgas.  Take advantage of the opportunity to be guided by a member of the local Aboriginal guardians.

460 km's from Uluru is the territories' second largest (30,000) outback town of Alice Springs.  Founded last century as an overland telegraph station, ‘the Alice’ (as locals call it) thrived. With its modern facilities, it has come a long way from its pioneering days.

Alice Springs in some ways can still be considered a bush community with outback institutions like the School of the Air, charged with educating by radio the children living on remote cattle stations, attest to this fact.

When in Alice what about a visit to the Desert Park or taking a camel to dinner...
